Funny story about losing things.....YEARS ago, me and two friends are headed to New Orleans from school (I grew up there and went to college in a wee town about an hour SW of the city) for a concert (I think Indigo Girls?). We took my car, and crashed at my parents house for the night. Me being the dork that I am, forgot to bring my contact lense case and didn't have a spare set of glasses with me. I had a stupid blond moment and put my contacts in a small glass of water by my bedside table.
You know where this is going.......
I'm Velma from Scooby Doo blind and things to see with aint cheap. Even back then (early/mid 90s?). My mom was FURIOUS. And one of my friends had to drive us back to school.
You stretch and yawnn as you turn to see your friend drinking a big gulp of water from a cup nearby. Your brain manages to get through and you just yell
Yeah, I went through a lose my debit card constantly phase. Last year I lost my apartment keys. That was a $30 lesson. Also, once my apartment keys magically fell out of my hands and into that space between the floor and the elevator. It was in our apartment building and lucky for me that said keys just dropped straight down. Our building's live in fix it guy just lowered a hook thingy and got them for me.
Ugh losing keys is the WORST (guilty). I actually lost the key to the car last week (IT WASNT MY FAULT - got them back tho). So glad the fix it guy got them for you!
Love this story. And that you have so many notebooks. I can relate the to preciousness of a brand new notebook, but thankfully I’ve worked pass the “fear” and anxiety and reluctance of “messing up” fresh pages. About kind strangers: there are more out there than we think. I have lucky encounters with a few of them that I still think of from time to time. Others’ kindness make us better person don’t you think?!
I had to pause my reading of this post to make a cup of tea - the thought of losing my notebook had me landing straight in NIGHTMARELAND.
I'm so relieved that you got it back! I've got my first name and phone number on a label in the front of mine in the hope that if I ever lose it I'll get a call.
This is what I hope I'll hear: 'Rebecca? I've found your notebook!'
Your drawings are so wonderful I really thought you had a printed diary. So with your inspiration I finally got out my empty pilot petite fude pen and went downtown to get a bottle of ink.
My heart seized up for you while reading your recounting of the lost notebook. What a relief! Also I love the aesthetic of those ink bottles!
They make me feel like a magical apothecary haha
You are magical! Through your tool of choice you turn thoughts into tangible reality.

Oh no! Does that mean you didn't see the concert?!
The tossing of the contacts happened afterwards.
Phew!
This is such a great story to draw
Early morning everyone is waking up

He protec, he attack,
But most importantly, he bring the notebook back ❤️
The idea of losing that kind of notebook -- terrifying! I'm so glad that someone saw its value and returned it.
haha also kind of embarrassing - the stuff in there, reading it without context? oh help.
