The dawn of 2025 approacheth! I don’t know if it’s gonna be good or bad (hence the suspicious and reticent new years girl) but I do know that it will be productive. I’ve got out my spiffy new annual planner - it glitters, so its festive and everything! As I plan out what I’ve got to get done, what I want to get done, ideas I’d like to explore and stories I’d like to finish in the 25th year of the 2000s, I’m doing some reflecting on what’s come before. It’s funny, I’ve been writing this newsletter for a couple years now, and I’m still not totally sure what it is. I try to be consistent, but I also try to be authentic and honest about what’s motivating me and what I’m moved to create so sometimes structure and consistency deviate. Some ideas work, some don’t, and reviewing the ups and downs of the last year are helping me plan what Authorstrator in 2025 looks like.
So with that said - we’ve arrived at the “cheesy clip-show” (simpsons reference) culmination letter! Here are some of my favourite posts from 2024:
AI gripes
Ugh, AI is still being annoying
These past few weeks, I've been actively trying not to write about AI. After over-consuming AI article after AI article to write my upcoming YA book, I needed to get some distance and think about other things - mostly the work. Drawing and writing.
Mermaids lead the punk rock rebellion
It’s almost #Mermay, the time where many artists, illustrators, animators and even mermaid performers take to the gram to draw mermaids every day for the month of May. Started by Disney veteran Tom Bancroft, this drawing competition is all about embracing your creativity and fun.
Comic stuff
Pond Scum: A Mermaid Tail
At last, my little mermaid comic is complete! I had wanted to post this for Mermay, for the prompt “sequential” but alas, work and time got the better of me. Nevertheless it’s finished now! And I am so excited to share it with you. These two characters started out as a fun little doodle and now I kinda want to just keep drawing them.
Hey from vacay!
I'm on vacation! The fam and I are at my parenrs’ cottage for rest, relaxation and self-care…
Other stuff
It's a Final Girl October!
I’ve been distracted this month - all my October plans (Howl Pass) derailed by a singular obsession - final girls.
Thanks so much for being here this year and being a part of Authorstrator! I’m excited for all the creativity to come in 2025 and to see what we get up to in this newsletter. I hope that you’ve got good food and company for today and have a wonderful new year celebration, whatever that looks like to you!
Til next year!
Happy New Year! 🎆🎊
