Ah fall. Is there a better time to load up on things to read? All the exciting books are coming out, people are looking ahead to October and getting ready for all the witch vibes. Its taking all my self-restraint to keep from hunting down scary reads and ghost stories. Don’t worry, I know we’re not all ready to embrace the pumpkin spice just yet so I’m keeping my cool for September, keeping the list chill.
If you’re new here, the Authorstrator Listy List is a roundup of what I think are the most interesting bits and bobs I collect for all the lists I keep in my notebooks over the course of the month! My TBR, my watch list, my list of arty things I want to try out. And I’m always on the lookout for more, so if you’ve got a great recommendation for a read, a watch, or arty stuff, I invite you to share your latest finds with us in the comments!
Here we go!
The Reading List
Articles
is a frequent highlight on the Listy List but that’s only cus everything they write is SO GREAT. Speaking of great, here’s a wonderful piece they did recently about the amazing Mary Blair who is a legendary illustrator who has fascinated me for a long time. This post from IGN was getting shared by a few animators I follow. Its a long read but gives an in depth look behind the scenes of Inside Out 2 and the fall out of the lay offs that happened after production. I don’t know what this means for the animation industry, but I do hope things start looking better soon.
Books
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - I loved The Starless Sea so I’m giving this one a go.
Absolution by Jeff Vandermeer - I enjoyed Vandermeer’s Southern Reach series (Annihilation) so this fourth installment is definitely one I will check out.
All the Hearts You Eat by Hailey Piper - OKAY I LOST MY CHILL, the description said gothic horror with small town folklore and I could NOT RESIST.
The Watch List
I’ve got NOTHING. The home theatre landscape is in real dire shape for me, which means I’m more productive than usual. Hoping that as we get closer to Halloween some excellent frightening fare makes itself known.
But until then, I suggest: Titanic - This is my weak offering for you this month. Watched it with my daughter this past weekend because she was reading a book about Titanic and asked if we could watch the movie. She was RIVETED. If its been a while since you’ve seen this classic, I recommend giving it a go. Its a big investment of your time, but it was nice to return to this 1997 blockbuster. They don’t make them like this anymore!
The Art List
Inktober is almost here! Time to start preparing.
The 21 Days project from the good people at
. Less intense of a commitment than the 100 days project. I am taking this opportunity to practice drawing hands again - my NEMESISAnd that’s it! Have I already started the October Listy List? Yes, yes I have. All things ghosts and ghouls!
What amazing finds have you discovered this fall? Please tell me you have good TV!
I recently read Lynette Noni's YA fantasy The Prison Healer trilogy and LOVED IT. I kept wanting to read more! I avoided reading it for years because the setting is so dark and heavy, but she really treated things well and tells SUCH a twist-filled, vivid story that I highly recommend.
For your watch list I recommend Wendel and Wild, I really enjoyed the art direction and it was quite underrated in my opinion!
