Happy Friday!

CHOMP CHOMP!
TWENTY ONE
Justin's arms clawed at the water, pulling him forward as fast as he could go.
But it wasn't fast enough.
He'd outrun the sharks along the rooftops all the way to John St -- where the rooftops ended and there was only the drowned road. On the roofs he had a chance. The sharks were fast, but Justin was faster.
Here, in the flood water -- this was the sharks' turf.
He could hear the splash as they dropped down off the roofs, following him into the waves.
There was no out swimming them
Hide, his instincts screamed. HIDE.
Swallowing a deep breath, Justin dove, desperate to find shelter. And he found it. A clothing donation receptacle.
He pulled open the slot and slipped inside. Pitch black. No air. His lungs began to ache.
This was a mistake.
BAM!
The whole metal box lurched sideways, the shudder from the impact rocking Justin so that his shoulder smashed the side.
The sharks had found him.
WHAM! Another hit.
Another.
And another.
Justin braced himself against the walls of the receptacle. This was it. He was going to die. It was a certainty now. The sharks would tear the box apart. And even if they didn't, he couldn't hold his breath forever.
The blows continued, the walls of the receptacle crunching inward. At this rate, they'd crush him before they ate him.
And he thought of Sarah. Of the screaming.
Thought of Mike. The red in the water.
Let it be quick, he begged.
And then nothing. The blows stopped.
Justin waited, lungs screaming for air. He had to breathe. He'd pass out if he didn't. What were they doing?
Reluctantly, he pulled open the door of the receptacle and peeked out. No sharks. But he saw something else. Green. A glowing, electric ribbon of it, pulsing towards him like a ripple.
What now?
He needed air.
He glanced up towards the surface -- and there they were. The sharks. They were facing in the direction the green glow had come from. And they were still.
What were they waiting for?
The big one hovered at the front of the group, white underbelly practically glowing in the murk. And on it's belly, Justin saw, was some kind of grey, slithery fish. It looked attached. All of the sharks had a fish attached to their belly, he realized, wriggling like leaches.
Another green ripple pulsed towards them. And then another. Again and again.
The big one twitched at the head of the pack.
Justin's vision blurred. Don't pass out, he begged himself. Don't pass out.
Another pulse of green. This one the brightest of all.
And the big one took off to wherever the green had come from, the others following after.
Justin couldn't wait any longer. Squeezing himself free of the metal box, he pushed off for the surface, breaking free of the water and letting the air fill his throbbing lungs.
In the distance, he saw the fins racing for whatever had caused the green glow that was still pulsing through the water.
And over the sound of the rain, he heard the rumble of a boat motor.
Kayla must have found the marina.
And, he worried, she'd found more trouble along with it.
