The world is teeming with ravenous greed monsters and I don't know about you but I am exhausted. Who owes what at what rate and to and from where. Tit for tat. Pay for play. Subscribe forever. Your mortal soul for one shiny dollar.
This is life.
Gross.
Gross ugly greed monsters setting the world quaking beneath our feet. Or maybe it’s always been like this. The monsters are just at our doorstep now.
And as I write my little stories while the greed monsters rage, I have to wonder at the absurdity of it all. What good are stories when giants are on the move? Remember in Cloverfield, how there were those parasites that fell off the monster and attacked people? What good are drawings when the parasites are feeding off all of us?
Some, I have to hope. Some good, in their own tiny way. Even if its just to give a reader somewhere to escape to for a little while. Even if a rampaging robot can create the same story I did at the push of a button (though, if recent events are any indication, I'm not so worried about AI coming for my job).
Like I said, I'm gonna write. Even when it feels too small. Too feeble. And I'm going to share it with you. My drawings and my writing, my experiments and flops, in hopes it brightens your day. I hope you're finding space and worth in your own creative output. I hope you hold onto it and protect it during these crazy times. And I hope you share it. Because that's what creatives are doing when we share our work - we hold out our hopes and our dreams, offering them up to others. The world could use more hopes and dreams right now, enough to crowd out the greed monsters and maybe, send them back into the shadows.

What I’m Working On
I’m still writing my secret book project - I’m on a very tight deadline and have no time for anything else. To be honest, I can’t believe I’ve managed to draw as many monsters as I have. Every minute of every day is this project. Excited to share more as soon as I can!
I’m also starting to think about #MerMay which is only a month away!!! They’ve released this years prompts and I’ve not yet decided how I want to tackle it. In recent years, I’ve liked using mermay as an opportunity to push myself creatively. Last year I made a mermaid comic (that I didn’t end up publishing until July, but still!). Not sure I’ll have time to be that ambitious this year, but I’m trying to come up with something! Kind of want to return to an old mermaid story of mine from a few mermay’s ago (Beckon). Are you participating in mermay this year?
Finally, since I’m not drawing as much as I’d like to, my drawing muscles are incredibly stiff. Trying to make sure I draw something small every day, even if its just scribbles. Here’s a peek at some of what I’ve been doodling to keep loose.

What I’m Reading
My Murder by Katie Williams - Just, yes. Amazing. Couldn’t put it down.
Brutes by Dizz Tate - I started this awesome YA just this week and its obvious from the first page that the writer is having a lot of fun with voice and perspective and I just really love the voice. I really love first person plural (we) - its daring and dynamic. Strong Virgin Suicides vibes from this one.
from While I was Drawing made lovely, lyrical post about what AI cannot do. Well worth a read if you’re in need of inspiration!I’m always a fan of
’s takes on creativity, they are always able to pin down how I’m feeling and offer new perspectives and hope. Like this one! Finally, its been a while since I’ve done an Ask Me Anything! So thought I would open one up in the chat on Friday. Watch for the AMA chat post and send in any questions you have - writing, drawing, books, movies. I’m ready!
And that’s it from me!
In the face of the chaos and the crazy, we keep creating 😘💛✨ Awesome Meaghan (and thanks for the mention!)
This was a very fun read! A few weeks ago, I discovered that I love drawing reptiles too, especially dragons and monster :) Not a lot of people actually appreciate the monsters or dragons, so I am glad I found someone who likes them! We should always experiment on which animals or objects we maybe would like to draw<3
