GAH! I had wanted to send this on the 9th but the Back-to-School rush was absolute CHAOS. But we got through it, reader. I am happy to report everyone is finally settled in their school routine and its time to get back to business!
So, THIS STORY. This story got totally away from me. I wrote it five years ago and poured everything into the beginning of this book - and by beginning, I mean first half. Everything was humming along great, I was even scaring myself with some of the horror aspects and I figured that was a great sign. And then halfway through the story, something happened…everything went right off the rails.
I totally lost control. The story had spawned a life of its own, and it began to pull in a direction that was too dark and upsetting and I had to wrestle back control. I grabbed the story by the horns and fought it, kicking and screaming all the way to the final page. And after 300 or so pages, I realized - the story was broken. The whole second half just didn’t work at all. I had forced it to be something it didn’t want to be, and it showed. Frustrated, I put it away in the drawer and decided to come back to it whenever I figured out how to fix it.
Reader, I never did. Maybe the time will come. Maybe some day I will know how to save this story I once so loved. But for now, it hides in the desk, never to be seen by anyone.
Except you! Well, you can read the first chapter, anyway. The end chapters….those might be buried with me.
Happy reading!
