I've been tragically stuck on my wip with no idea what comes next for about a week. This happens….frequently. Not just with this particular story, but with every story - I get to the middle of the action and lose all momentum and can't think of an idea. And because it happens all the time, I have a plan that always seems to help.
This is the time when I give up staring at a computer screen and start putting pen to paper. I either doodle or just start writing exactly what I'm thinking. I can't tell you how many of my wip journal pages start with something like "ok....now what? How are you supposed to fix this mess?" I rant, really. I spill out every problem and road block and just how disastrous it will be if I cant figure it out, the same way I would if I were venting to a friend - and eventually the solution starts to present itself. Like today:
I pulled out the ink and dip pen and got to writing in my notebook. And it was so successful I thought I ought to share how well it went in case you are similarly stuck and are looking for ways to jog yourself loose again.
