Do you know - in all the hullabaloo of the last few weeks, I do believe I forgot to do the Listy List for Feb! Apologies for leaving you hanging but we’re back to our regularly scheduled programming now and I am coming at you with the Listy List for March!
If you’re new here, the Authorstrator Listy List is a roundup of what I think are the most interesting bits and bobs I collect for all the lists I keep in my notebooks over the course of the month! My TBR, my watch list, my list of arty things I want to try out. And I’m always on the lookout for more, so if you’ve got a great recommendation for a read, a watch, or arty stuff, I invite you to share your latest finds in the comments!
Here we go!
The Reading List
Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism by Sarah Wynn Williams - This book by a Meta insider was brought to my attention by the awesome newsletter
. Apparently its causing quite the stir so of course I gots ta know what’s in it!Making History by KJ Parker - I absolutely love novellas and desperately need more of them in my life. This one is a dark fantasy about a group of academics being forced to participate in a mad king’s propaganda campaign and …ahem…it spoke to me.
Old Wounds by Logan-Ashley Kisner - I’ve been brushing up on my YA reading and was perusing titles from the past year and this one caught my interest, mostly because I love the cover but also! The narrative voice is excellent.
The Bane Witch by Ava Morgyn - this one’s billed as Practical Magic meets Gone Girl….so…HELLO!
The Watch List
Late Night With the Devil - this movie was different and weird. A horror, so not for the squeamish, but definitely creative.
Win or Lose - Animated kids series, my guys LOVE it. I lolled a LOT. From the sweat bubble anxiety to the influencer mother, I was charmed from start to finish, wholly invested in each episode. Just amazing.
The Art List
The art in question this month - is the art of story. Been collecting lots of fun stuff for the craft of writing as I work on a tight deadline!
Strange Horizons is an amazing SFF online magazine and they’ve announced their fiction windows for 2025 - April 16, June 4 and Nov 3. If you’ve got some fiction looking for a home, check this out!
Agents and Books by
I've been writing long enough to be deeply skeptical of most writing advice out there. I've said as much - when it comes to your writing path, virtually no one knows what’s up. BUT i do think Kate McKean is one of those voices worth listening to. If your looking for query advice. She has a book coming out soon and i bet its got some real gems in it.This pen from Kuretake for drawing - I saw this in action on a reel recently and it looks like a real treat, so thinking of picking this one up!
And that’s it! What’s on your lists?
Fabulous list! Thank you 🙏
Such a coincidence…moments before reading this post, I finished a review about Wynn-Williams and her memoir in the New York Times. Can’t wait to read it.
